A New York anti-obesity tax on soda will make a six pack of coca cola more expensive than a six pack of beer

In an effort to cut down on obesity New York wants to start taxing on soda with sugar. I don't think it's going to make a difference. If someone wants to buy soda they will pay a little more in tax. I think its the wrong decision especially in a recession.

I think that the intentions behind this were probably good, trying to make NY healthier and whatnot, but I think they went about this the wrong way. I agree with you, it's stupid to think that a tax increase will stop people from purchasing things that are bad for them. Look at how expensive cig's are, and people definitely still purchase those! I think if the state wants to make its population healthier, then they need to take some different steps. Perhaps readily avaiable healthier foods, decreased prices of gym memberships, free exercise instruction, or something along those lines. It just seems like they're not going about it the right way. I think education is the wa to go for this...
