Newsweek thinks Cheney should run in 2012
Mouth off (20 comments)

"Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people." I actually laughed out loud when I read this! It's too ridiculous. Has a great entertainment factor though.

You reveal your ignorance of Dick Cheney. He has a distinguished career of public service spanning several decades and administrations.--He took a severe pay cut to serve. Unlike most of your Democrat "heroes" like PelosI, Kennedy, Al Gore and John Kerry, he is a SELF MADE millionaire who was raised in a small town, went to a small college and ACTUALLY HAD A REAL JOB(!) IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. He took the office of VP SOLELY to serve the country and help George Bush get elected and re-elected and publicly renounced any interest in running for President. Liberals like to talk big about not being selfish and helping others but I challenge you to name a single Democrate with anything near Cheney's resume and background whose service to his country has been as selfless. You should be able to separate your disagreement with his politics from his accomplishments as a man. Anyone can call for spending other peoples money on the poor. I submit that Cheney's record of personal achievement speaks louder than the phony self serving rhetoric of your average socialist (thief)

"You should be able to separate your disagreement with his politics from his accomplishments as a man." Umm, really? Because I'm pretty sure that when someone wants to be president, you should be looking at both. My lack of recepect for him has as much to to with him as a person as it has to do with him as a dirty politician. Cheney still wants to convince us that the evil things he's done were all done because he loved us so much. It's sort of like a global politics version of wife beater syndrome.

Nikkie, Cheney isn't running for President and has never expressed any desire to do so. Be honest and admit you don't like his politics. He has done nothing "evil" except defeat your choice for a leader at the polls.

You're right, my use of words was incorrect. He isnt running for president. But it is being suggested by newsweek that he consider it, and I truly believe it's a ridiculous idea. From the Iraqi connection to the Enron ties to the India deal, there is a wide trail of lies told by Cheney. Dick Cheney also didn't see either Iraq or Saddam Hussein as a problem when he was making billions for Halliburton Inc and millions for himself. The idea of that man becoming president actually makes me physically ill, and Im certain Im not the only person who feels that way.

Nikkie says, --"From the Iraqi connection to the Enron ties to the India deal, there is a wide trail of lies told by Cheney"--list the "lies", with quotes and links please.

Funny enough, I went to find links for you and found these. I figured since they did all the work for me, why just paste it here? And if these arent good enough for you, dont worry, I have more.(http://www.commondreams.org/view/2008/12/26-6) and this (http://www.seattlepi.com/national/54921_energy18.shtml) and this (http://my.auburnjournal.com/detail/115087.html)

Nikkie, I have asked you for links and you have provided them. I'm not sure if you've actually read them but you have provided some and I thank you.--I went to the first link and read the first four "lies". As I suspected, these were not "lies" but opinions different from people with whom you agree. The first "lie" involved Cheney's opinion that the surveillance of international communications was constitutional. The author of your link was of a different opinion. Your author evidently regards his own opinion as the touchstone of truth against which differing opinions can be declared "lies". In this particular case it's kind of hard not to laugh since the courts have ultimately sided with Cheney's view and our current President has in fact expanded the NSA surveillance program. Is Obama now deliberately breaking the law or is he "lying" about its legality by continuing the practice?-- Now if Cheney had said that the administration was NOT intercepting those communications and the US to his knowledge was in fact doing so--THAT could be considered a lie. Offering a legal opinion is not and cannot be a "lie" by definition. In "lie #2"Cheney offered a legal opinion that Water-boarding is not torture. He did not try to claim that we were not engaging in it--only that in his opinion it was not torture. The third "lie" was his opinion that the US received actionable intelligence from WB. The author himself describes his "proof" of Cheney's "lie" as an OPINION, held by former FBI Director Mueller. I could go on I suppose but my guess is there would be more of the same polemics. If you would like to give this a second shot, I would invite you to link to specific quotes by Cheney that are REAL lies, the deliberate telling of a falsehood, known by Cheney to be false at the time of telling it.(EXAMPLE"I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN") I do not think you can do that.--Let me ask you a question. Obama has said in justifying the stimulus package that it needed to be implemented in order to avoid an unemployment rate as high as 8%. As you know we passed the stimulus that he wanted and unemployment has gone past TEN PERCENT! Until now I would have characterized Obama's statement as a political opinion with which I disagreed (and rightfully so since the stimulus failed to prevent an unemployment rate over 8%) are you suggesting that I am entitled to call Obama's statement, not just wrong BUT A LIE??--I'll bet your answer to that question is no.--Play by the same set of rules for both sides Nikkie if you want to develop some credibility.

Holy cow,I forgot about this post. Im so sorry! In regards to your comment, I do honestly hold both political parites to the same accountablity. After Obama's plan for Afghanistan, you can bet Im not too happy with him right now. Try this article for Cheney, its more specific: http://www.jonsullivan.com/DiaryDetail.php?pg=1440&mat=ddef

Nikkie, It's all good Nikkie. I spend too much time on these sites as it is. (no offense meant) In fact I'm a little busy right now but since you hold both sides to the same standard then does that mean I can call Obama a "liar" because he said his policy was going to prevent unemployment from going over 8% and it's at 10.2?--I think your honest answer would be "NO". My point is that there is a difference between a "difference of opinion" and a "lie". There is also a difference between being mistaken and lying. That's why I won't call Obama a "liar" for stating that unemployment wouldn't go over 8%. I'm hardly shocked he turned out to be wrong but I wouldn't think of calling him a "liar" over it. I glanced at your new link and it listed a "lie" of Cheney's as saying that he had never met Edwards! Nikkie,do you remember EVERY SINGLE PERSON YOU'VE EVER MET? Come one!! THAT was a "lie"?? Don't you think it was possible the vice president was mistaken. Why would he falsely claim to have never met Edwards?? What was in that for him?? When I get the time to look at the rest of your link--I hope it does better than that.

Rocketman (0) On 12 / 8/ 2009 at 2:38 EST  reply | report abuse

I think what you didnt read was that they hadnt just met, they met several times. Cheney had even mentioned Edwards by name at a Senate prayer breakfast and sat beside him for the entire event. Im sure we both know that Cheney has been famous for decades for his steel trap mind and almost perfect recall. And for the link, keep in mind that the list is actually all things he said in one night (the debate in '04). I'll wait to address anything else until you've had a chance to look it over.

Nikkie, so what was in if for him to "lie". The VP is a busy guy (especially THIS one) so he forgot Edwards, was Obama "lying" when he referred to the "57 states" of the union? I don't think so because I can't imagine why he would reveal that kind of ignorance. He just "goofed" not "lied". Is his (mis)statement ALSO a "lie"?

Thats a good point. And if it was just that one example (or even a few) then I would completly agree that it was just a mistake. But its all of those examples, plus the rest not mentioned, that make me feel like he was (and is) just doing his best to keep us all in the dark about his true intentions.

Nikkie says,--Thats a good point. He's trying to make a case that Cheney is a "liar" and that's an example? Come on now Nikkie! He's clearly not being reasonable.

Truthfully, I question EVERYONES judgment. Im very careful to make sure that the only opinion I ever have is completely my own. Its not like my opinion of Cheney hinges on this one article. It's everything I've read, seen, and heard that makes me feel the way I do.

Cheney is a Dick. I mean we've heard more from this asshole after he left office then the entire time he was VP. And who are these assholes giving him the time of day? Who cares what he thinks? Let him crawl back under the rock where we was during he VP years.
