Is the Bible too concertive for modern day?

Some extreme librals are taking action to change the bible to be more "user" friendly and un sexist for our generation. I think this is a horrible thing to even suggest doing. You don't see me going up to other religions demanding that they change their documentation of their whole religion so I can be happy! Thoughts?

Well, I respectfully dissagree. I think that the Bible should be more "open minded" so that it's more of an inclusive book. We need to be more excepting of eachother, not single eachother out. Isn't that what growth is all about?

If the Bible is not the Word of God throw it in the trash. If it is filled with the requirements of our creator we would have to be idiots to change it just so it would be inclusive. I would rather be told that I am wrong if I am wrong, than to be told I am OK then find out after it is too late that I am wrong. Not all growth is good. Todd

@ Edub... Are you kidding me!? That is the most rediculous thing that I've ever heard. We can be excepting of others without changing the Bible. All this...Take the "He" out and replace it with "It", or "She", is totally obsurde!

Teach the bible the way it is. The one thing I would do differently is teach the fact that the bible has at least 40 authors. Not every word in the bible was said by God or by Jesus. Don't change what is says, but stop saying God said this, when a man said it. If a man said it then the reader can understand the context and discern or decide for themselves

Keep the bible the way it is. To even suggest changing it is ludacris. Even if you don't beleive in it how can you change it. If these idiots want to change it, why don't they just write their own bible with all of their beleifs?

the bible should not be changed...but they could do a better job of putting things in to better context for the readers to understand

I can understand why people would find it so difficult to understand, but changing anything would be wrong. The way the Bible is right now is they way it was meant to be. It's up to us to educate ourselves and be able to interpret and understand it properly. That's like changing a math textbook just because you dont understand trig.

Dani (2545) On 10 / 12/ 2009 at 3:16 EST  reply | report abuse

it's nothing like trig... math doesn't leave things up for interpretation. Subjective matters (ie: love, hate, sin...) are ideas that are interpreted in various ways. Why do you think there are so many different types of churches that practice different facets of gay marriage or abortions.

Hey, as long as the bible that I use remains unchanged, I really dont care what other people want to do with theirs.

The bible is a creation of man not God and to think the bible is perfect the way it is being closed minded which in turn ceases peoples to growth... just read the responses on here about the changes. Remember man is not perfect and a bunch of men gathered together and agreed to pick and choose which stories to put in the bible to achieve what ever their agenda was at the time. How many authors didn't have their writings published in the bible? and Why? have you ever asked yourself that? Its all about people agenda and what they want to achieve? Do you think God or Jesus would be oppose to this if they were alive in person for this? This sounds no different than what the hard core islamist are fighting for with their Jihad against the west. Sorry to inform people but time is supposed to evolve people not keep them living in the past. As long as the message is a peaceful one and the messeges come from Love than I dont see a problem with it at all! Change is inevitable growth is optional!

Thinker You said As long as the message is a peaceful one and the messeges come from Love than I dont see a problem with it at all! Change is inevitable growth is optional! The Bible says there is only one way to get to Heaven. That way is through Jesus Christ. There is no changing that. No matter how peaceful and loving you are, if you die without accepting the sacrafice of Jesus Christ, You will spend eternity seperated from God, from light, from love, from peace, from hope. Todd

The Bible should not be changed. It is the word of God and should stay that way. @thinker- I understand your point of view and your beliefs, but man did not pick and choose which stories were to be in the Bible. The bible says that it was written through God, meaning God spoke to and through those that put the Bible together. I think this is the part that a lot of people have a hard time believing, but I guess that is part of having faith. Yes, I do think Jesus would be opposed to changing the Bible. If he wanted it to be changed don't you think their would be something in the Bible stating that? It actually states the complete opposite, and it does say that the Bible is the word of God and is written through him. Also, change is not inevatible in everything, in a lot of cases it is optional, as it is in this scenario as well as gay rights. To be gay, is a choice, and you are going against what God says. Respectfully

Mohammed said God spoke to him. John Smith the founder of the Mormon church said God spoke to him. There a lot of people that say God speaks to them, does that mean that we follow them blindly and aren't allowed to think for ourselves or question any of their words or motives? You can read the bible, and somethings when you read them feel loving and divine. Other things feel like a man trying to control others, and feel like they are from man and not God. Other things just seem like they were relevant at the time, but no longer are. I don't think we should change the bible, but I think we should teach it in a way where people think and question, ponder and feel what the point and principles are.

It seems like with everything els out there, what other people want to do with it really isnt that big of a deal. If you dont want to believe in the edited version, then dont. Not a big deal.

@pastroni But it is a big deal, lets look back from recent history all the way to ancient history...How many wars have been fought because someones bible is better than the others? How many people have died fighting for that belief? Do you think Jesus or God is happy with the fact that millions of millions of people have died fighting for the case of who's religion is better? Its not like the wars that are being fought are God versus devil worshipers its God believers versus God believers (some call him God, other call him Allah and etc). Its insanity (doing something over and over and expecting a different result). So yeah lets keep the bible the same and let other religions keep their bibles the same and we as a human race can fight these wars that never end and never knowing the end result cause the only end result is when we as a human race can come to peace, and if it means changing a book full of metaphors than so be it. Lets putting our egos aside and love one another cause the way we are doing it now is not working in the big picture! Thasts why I'm so passionate about this cause I can see the big picture, I'm not stuck on a small portion like a book, that was written thousands of years ago (old testament) and the new testament that was written 30 years after Jesus's death, Dont you think these stories have been embellished? Andc thats what we are fighting for? STRAIGHT INSANITY!!!!!! Even the bible says God is LOVE so lets teach LOVE and move forward with Peace

Thinker, I was raised up in church and prayed every night no matter how high I was or how drunk I was. I was addicted to drugs and alcohol for 14 years, there was nothing that I could do to get away from them. I prayed when I got my drugs, I prayed when I sold my drugs, and when I did not get busted I thought my prayers were being answered. After my life fell apart I put a gun in my mouth to kill myself , but I remembered all the teaching of the Bible and knew I would wake up in Hell, so On 11-09-1988 I walked into a church with a loaded gun in my pocket and 15 pounds of marijuania in the trunk of my car, I went up to the front of that church and ask an invisible God to forgive me and asked Jesus in my heart. I left there afraid to tell anyone what I did, because I wanted to make sure it was real. Finally without feeling anything, without having any proof except for what the Bible told me "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." i started telling people I got saved, then the feelings came. Three days later my drug supplier came after his 15 pounds of marijuania that was in my trunk, because I told him I got saved and would not sell it anymore. when I opened my trunk I found a cartoon of cigarettes, and I said hey, I don't smoke anymore. I then realized I was no longer a drug addict or a drunk. I never even had to quit, I just did not do them again. That was 21 years ago, I am still free. What if someone had changed the Bible to say there was no Hell I would have killed myself and would be burning there now. What if they would have changed it to say there are many ways to get to Heaven as long as you pick one you will be fine. Here is my point. I was religious. I prayed everynight, but I was still headed for Hell. There is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and man Jesus Christ. If you do not go through Jesus, you can not get to God, no matter how much you pray..... Read the Bible thinking, what if God really did write this...........Todd

@thinker. I do agree with you that a lot of the fighting that is going on is pretty ridiculous and God would not be happy. U said "God versus God believers". The problem is there is only 1 God, and every different religion believes there's is the "right" God. Actually in the new testament the Bible predicts a lot of these wars that are going on in the middle eastern countries, especially in Israel. You are also right that God is all about love, but unfortunately the world and man are not perfect.

Hey I'm gonna talk to you about something that is probably not believable . I believe in god and over the past 20 years have lead a life on the wild side and the good side and just this past two years I see something that is so evil that shocks me . There is a secret society of people liveing and building there wealths using murder, drugs and extortion. It is the Hells angels motorcycle club they are trying to play god and this is a problem for all of us the story I have to tell is long I need to get it out before Im takin out by these people so the world no's the truth. Let me know if anyone wishes to here this.

Has anyone ever heard of a hidden society that lives among all of us? They are believed to be gods army to protect all of us from evil. Made up of twelve familys that started civilization these family's form a army to protect the people the thirteenth family(the army) . When there is some disturbance amongs the people they show themselves this I have seen recently and now I'm not sure who to talk to about with it.

@Todd what a great story of your life changing, I'm not saying the bible does not change peoples life cause I know it does. What I'm saying is the cult like attitude it creates and the close mindedness that it brings. Every religion have the same concepts of a creation, a sacrafice and then a salvation, it's also a theme to all movies. Who's to say that Jesus is the only way to god? So what happens to the rest of the world who does not believe in Jesus? Does that mean they automaticly go to hell? Do you think that God the almighty would limit his love that way? To me that is a crazy way of thinkng and very closed minded. Why not rewrite the bible and say that Jesus was one of many prophets to come to this world that influenced the world in a postive way, but not the only one. The thought of changing the way we think is always hard in the begining and the changes always seems worse than the current system but that's how we grow, with change.the bible is great but not perfect, I think we can do better with the implimentation of other philosophies.
