I saw this quote and I loved it "Both read the Bible day and night, but thou read black where I read white" Your thoughts or interpretations

I think it is saying read the bible, but everything is not black and white, there's a touch of gray.

That's a good response... I took it as the bible has 2 meanings and only a selected few will and can understand the correct meaning of the written word. The first one Is the literal meaning of the stories and the 2nd is the true meaning (the message in between the lines). Kind of like music, curtain songs have a different and deeper meaning of what they are trying to communicate but to the uninformed the song sounds normal. That's what I got from it.

Here is one that I just saw "Read the Bible everyday, you call it false, what would Jesus say?"

What would he say? He would probably say the bible is only 1 piece of the puzzle, and he would also say go out and learn other religions to know more about god.

I think it has a lot to do with perspective too. Two different people might be looking at the same thing and see something very different. it always depends on where you come from and how you think.

Perception is also key!! Isn't that what all religions are? Different perceptions of God and how to live to go to heaven

@thinker. Not all religions believe in the same God. Where did you get that from? The Bible talks about Jesus being the son of God. Not all religions believe that. What do you think about the koran? Jesus would say the Bible is just 1 piece of the puzzle? What would he say the other pieces are? other gods? One of the comandments is "though shall have no other gods before me"

@mikeylikesit Ah great questions... and perfect questions for the exact topic we are talking about. Ill answer your questions by number to make it easy to read...Here we go 1.All religions do belive in the same God the difference is the names of our God. Every religions God is a higher being and so is ours. 2.Jesus is the son of god and so are you and me we are all the sons of God. Jesus,Mohammed, buddha and Krishna are all examples of highly enlightened individuals that were unlike your normal people living in the countries they were from. Our modern day Holy people in our era would be our Popes, Mother Theresa, and the Dali Lama just to name the few, and we do write books about them, do tv specials on these people and so on. Back in the anciant times they didnt have TV's so they wrote about them as an example of how people should live by listening to their preaching. It's no different than Toney Robbins Talking at seminars about how to be happy in life and enjoy the success from being so positive. Robbins packs stadiums all around the world, And so did these individuals mentioned above (not around the world but around their cities and countries). Anytime you have individuals that have a high following people tend to idolize them and think very highly of these people. 3.What about the Koran? Have you read it? 4.The other pieces are other interpretation of Love. All teachings have one thing in common...Love. People have diffrent ways of doing things around the world, a perfect example is Food, every country has their own version of food. People around the world have different ways of loving, a perfect example is different religions. Can you imagine if everyone in the world put their minds together to create something positve for man kind? you heard of the expression 2 minds are better than 1. Problem is we've become so territorial and we read our bibles so literal that we then become competetive that we think our god is better than theirs and that creates Kaos. Think of a football game with everyone having different playbooks and different rules, eventually everyone one wantes to win its human nature to want to win (EGO). 5. other Gods... NO just different names for the higher being. 6.Your right the commandment does say "thou shall not have no other gods before me" The bible also says that he created us as an image of him, so you can look at it as No idiolizing ANY MAN (which is the second commandment right?) including highly enlightened people. The only difference between you and I or us and Jesus,is our different experiences or knowledge. Im sure all through school you (or I,we or us) werent the smartest guy in class, cause someone is always smarter in something but that doesnt make him or her any better than you. So these highly enlightened indivduals are human like us just more enlightened. Hope that makes sense.

@thinker- I understand your thought process and beliefs a lot clearer now. I can honestly say I have not heard this theory before. The biggest part that I don't understand that you keep talking about is how the Bible is not all true. Which part is true and which part isn't true? So, let me ask you this. The Bible says that "in order to get to heaven one must confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord". So, under your theory, maybe some people will think this is true and some think it is false. Who determines if this is true or false? I am assuming that you don't believe this, based off of what you said you believe. You said that the Bible is meant for us to take what we want from it. So, under your theory some people can believe this and some can't?

@mikeylikesit I'm glad my theory makes a little more sense. I'm not saying the bible is not true all I'm saying is that the interpretations maybe be miss read. So instead of reading the quote literaly "in order to get to heaven one must confess with mouth that Jesus is lord", Maybe the guy writing it ment that in order to get to heaven (Nervana, Bliss) one must learn and teach Love (to follow in the footsteps of preaching Love and to spread the word as opose to learning it and keeping it for yourself). Thats the difference between viewing the bible literally or metaphorically. Its all in the intent of the traditions and how strong your belief is. An example is the radical muslums, they are so diciplined and have so much love for God (they call him Allah we call him God) that they are willing to die in honor for him (1 reason is cause they interpred somewhere in the Koran that A human wrote by the way... that heaven for them is having virgins as wives and that the family will always honor him/her as dying for defending Allah against the infadels. You have to look at the culture and see what society is like in the region and you will have a better understanding of the disipline, Once you understand the culture you then can understand the writings. That would be part of a bible that I would not want to continue and listen to cause it is not a positive outcome. Our bible says in one of the commandments "thou shall not kill" but how many people have died in Wars that have been defending christinity? Again we cant pick and choose what we want to get from the bibles we just need to Love and come to solutions by finding positive outcomes. But EGO is tto big for people to Come together as one. If we are going to teach synergy than lets start where the majority of people read..Their bible!!! We cant come together if we have our current bibles being miss intrepred the way they are, so we might have to rewrite it were we can understand it better

@thinker What you are saying is still not making sense though. How can anyone interpet anything different from the verse " in order to get to heaven one must confess with his mouth Jesus is Lord". It doesnt say "learn and teach love" How do you get that from this verse? it says "confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord" I think it is pretty clear what it says. So, do you think this is false? I am still confused how you can get anything different from this then what it says. It doesnt make sense to say we can pick and choose what we want to get from the Bible. Let me ask you this. What if the Bible is true, that verse is 100% correct, and you have it all wrong, then what? Your thoughts...

mikeylikesit (165) On 10 / 23/ 2009 at 10:29 EST  reply | report abuse

Lord can be god and in the bible god is Love. A lot of words may have different meanings. Confess by mouth Jesus is lord, living the way Jesus lived with unconditional love. If the bible is a 100% literal the way you describe it then that god is limited in his or her thinking and a lot of people will be going to hell regardless if one does great things for man kind, and if that's the case that's not a god that I want to be a part of. What about the Jews that are branded as the people of god but they don't recognize Jesus... Does that mean they are all going to hell? Wasn't Jesus a Jew? Does that mean Jesus is going to hell based off the bible? The beauty is we will never find out who's right and who's wrong but I do know that if the bible says "love thy neighbor" then my theory has a better chance in loving thy neighbor cause I don't limit who I love based on their religion. I can't pick and choose who i want to love, we are all human and we are all the same just different philosophies..

@thinker- Observed, but you are absolutely correct in saying to love everyone no matter their religion. I hope I never came across that we should only love those who believe in the same religion. You are also right in saying we are all human and there are many different philosiphies. I appreciate you explaining your beliefs. Also, the Bible talks about exactly what you are saying you believe in. It talks about how religions will try and be united as one. It also talks about many governments will try and form one union, which is kind of scary cause some of that stuff is going on now I think, although most of it we don't hear in the press. I will try and find the exact verses where it explains this. Thanks again.

It means don't idolize the words of the Bible. God is a word so sacred, its meaning is beyond human comprehension, and therefore, not apart of good, evil, or any other human judgments. The meaning of the word God is beyond our comprehension. Seeing white means God is not bounded by the black letters of human language.
